Today I decided to go for a run to test out my new Garmin, and since it's less than a month until my trail race I thought I had best get some more practice in off road!
All I can say is off road and rain makes for an interesting run ... and then throw some cows into the mix for some added spice!!
Despite slipping and sliding in the mud I actually enjoyed going off road ... that was until I came to a field full of cows!
I was feeling fairly confident as I made my way through the gate as they were all lying down looking fairly settled ... that was until I ran past them!
One of then decided to get up and run alongside me, which the others must have thought looked like fun as they joined in the game!
I was in a dilemma! Turn around and head back towards the gate, keep going as fast as possible or divert my route!
I opted for the latter and diverted from going straight down the middle of the field to skirting the edges! I decided if I had to escape I was better off being near a fence I could leap over!
Luckily for me the cows weren't really interested in me at all and once I diverted to the sides they kept on running down the middle chasing each other!
I was very relieved when I eventually arrived at the gate and there was only sheep in the next field!
One thing about running off road is I don't even think about my pace!
I was too busy concentrating on staying upright and not tripping, slipping or falling I forgot I was wearing my new fangled watch until I got back home and came to stop it!
Now which button has stop on it ....?!
Despite getting rather wet and muddy I enjoyed my run and managed 6.19 miles, 4 of which were off road!
If I am going to keep doing this off road running lark I am going have to man up when it comes to cows!
