First run of 2012! After spending the day trying to "de-Christmas" the house and restore a bit of normality to things it was time to hit the streets! The weather had been appalling all day - constant driving rain. However, it did decide to stop so I jumped at the opportunity to go out! I enjoyed being out in the fresh air after being cooped up over the holidays, and tried to take things gently after overindulging in food and alcohol - I didn't want to shock my body too much!!
Although the rain had stopped, huge puddles had collected both on the pavements and the roads, and there seemed to be a lot of people who must have set a New Year Resolution of "Driving through puddles to soak runners!" . So I was continuously playing dodging puddles on the pavements and predicting which idiots were going to try and soak me!!! About 3 miles into my run the weather changed and huge hailstones decided to pelt me - leaving the pavements not only with puddles but now very slippery and there was the potential of me landing on my backside! Luckily for me the hailstones were short-lived!
Reading the above, you probably think I didn't enjoy my first run of 2012, but being a glutton for punishment I actually did!!
