First day back at work today after the Christmas break and so decided to walk to work to work off some of the excesses of the season!! Cold and windy but dry walk there this morning and even managed to get home this afternoon without getting wet!
However, the story changed when I went for my run this evening! I set off in cold crisp weather conditions and by the time I got 1 mile in the rain started, which very soon changed into hail stones! The hail came down so hard it actually hurt as it ricocheted off my face and hands! To add insult to injury around about the same time my zip of my jacket broke so I had a flapping jacket flaring behind me in the wind which was in my opinion, equivalent to doing parachute resistance training!!! However, undeterred I was determined to continue my selected 5 mile route!
Yet again, I seemed to be the target of the game "Lets soak idiotic runners" by smug car drivers! I was feeling rather smug myself when 4 miles in I actually overtook another runner - this is a first for me, usually I'm the one constantly being overtaken!! I had a major decision to make as I approached the runner, do I hang back and follow or do I overtake and have the added pressure of having to maintain the faster pace. I decided to go for it and was actually quite chuffed with how much it pushed me on! I think I may have found a new speed training method that works for me - chasing other runners!!
I made it home soaking wet through but feeling exhilarated!
