Tempo Run Done!
After a bad start to the day with a late get up I was trying to catch up with myself for the rest of the day! The day started off with torrential rain but luckily for me (since it's a running day) by the time I finished work at 3.30pm it had stopped and the sun was shining brightly! I was having to go back to work at 6.30pm for a parents evening so I opted to go for my run as soon as I got home before I sat down and got comfortable.
The training plan said a 3 mile Tempo run with a 10 minute warm up and cool down. Speed is not my thing so consequently I'm not very good at tempo runs but I am determined to get faster so no excuses acceptable! Before I went I was still slightly snuffly but nothing too bad and I WAS just thinking my "cold" was nearly gone THEN I went running!
I did my first mile warm up faster than I intended so it wasn't really a warm up at all, whoops, but then went into concentrating on running consistently faster miles - whilst the general public consistently tried to slow me down by getting in my way! What is it with walkers staggering around the pavements as if they have sunk 20 pints, kids parking trikes in my way and teenagers having gang gatherings in the most inappropriate places! I wanted to shout "Get the F**k out of my way" or maybe I should get a siren and blue flashing light on my head! Then when I managed to negotiate my way past they all looked at me as if I was the one doing something wrong! GRRRRRRR!
Anyway what with these pavement obstacles and having to stop for cars (what's with allowing cars on a road too?!) I got fairly frustrated when I was trying to run like a bat out of hell!
For the first time ever tonight whilst running a tempo run I tried to control my run by focusing on my Heart Rate and not my pace. I was trying to keep it around 165 BPM.
I was chuffed to see when I got home that I had managed to keep it more or less between 160 and 165 BPM on the tempo section which equated to minute mile splits of 8:08, 8:31, 8:26! Maybe if I manage to keep it consistently higher next time my pace will get faster too! I am sure without all the obstacles I would have been faster!
You can view my run here.
However, not long after getting in through the door - the sneezing began ... and went on ... and on ... and on! Even after an antihistamine I was still sneezing which was a little embarrassing when I was at parents evening! By the time I went to bed I had gone through hoards of tissues and felt totally wiped out!
