The weather forecast for today was dire so I was pleased when I got up that it was dry although there was big ominous looking black clouds lurking around!
I decided I needed to get a long run in as Liverpool Half Marathon is fast approaching, but I also need to get more off-road practice in since my trail races are also fast approaching!
So my solution was a long off road run!
I wore my waterproof jacket as the sky looked very threatening and set off with a route in mind.
It had obviously rained a lot during the night as it was very muddy and slippy in places but it adds to the experience! At one point I nearly lost my trainer as the mud tried to "suck" it off my foot! Thankfully it was tied on well and my trainer won the battle!
I was also very brave and ran through a field of cows, although thankfully they weren't interested in me! There were several stiles to navigate on this run and when it comes to getting over them I don't have much style! Here's hoping there isn't any on my trail races!
I was very warm with my jacket on but decided it was easier to wear it than to try and carry it or tie it around my waist.
By the 8th mile I was beginning to tire (I think climbing over several stiles adds an extra dimension to a run!) and by mile 9 it started to drizzle!
The run was 10.85 miles and approximately 8 miles of it was off road so all good experience!
It felt a lot further than 10.85 miles does on the roads!
Hopefully it will make me a fitter stronger runner!
I was very lucky - as soon as I got home the heavens opened and there was the most torrential downpour!
I wouldn't have liked to have been stuck out in that!
This run really took it out of me and I have been absolutely exhausted all day and just for added discomfort I can still feel my abs too!
