Is it the 31st January Yet? Oh well nearly a third of the way through this crazy idea! Who would believe that exercising and blogging everyday could be such a challenge - I would certainly challenge anyone to do it who dares suggest this is easy!!!
I actually felt quite good tonight! My night at the gym must have been enough to rest my Achilles! I set out with a 3 miler in mind but because my body was willing I kept going!! The weather was also on my side for a change, no rain, no wind and very mild! However, with seemingly perfect running conditions I didn't pass another runner which I thought was strange - perhaps they have a secret rendezvous place I don't know about! As I already mentioned I set out to do 3 miles and managed 6 miles - could have gone further but didn't want to push my luck with another 21 days to survive!
My training plan for the half marathon stipulates the necessity for rest days to ensure the body recovers and rebuilds, however this Janathon isn't permitting me to follow these rules. Reading deeper into my programme it does state that if you don't want to take rest days (why on earth would anyone NOT want to rest?!!!) to do "easy" runs instead. (2 to 4 easy miles below 60% of maximum heart rate ), so perhaps next time I'm feeling "in need" of a rest day I will try an easy run so my body doesn't force me to rest completely!
I have realised training for this half marathon the error of my ways whilst training for the Great North Run! I was obsessed about mileage - the further the better with no regard to pace, however I now realise the importance of challenging myself to short fast spurts as well as longer runs! Quality rather than just quantity is my new motto!
