Janathon - Day 9


 Well, Day 9 and I think my body has had enough!  My Achilles is still grumbling when I'm walking and shouting very loudly at me when I am going up or down stairs so I decided to take care and err on the side of caution tonight  by going to the Gym instead of hitting the streets!   I don't have a gym yearly membership but use the "pay as you go" scheme as I'd much rather be exercising outdoors if at all possible, therefore I wouldn't get my moneys worth out of a yearly subscription!  (I don't think!)

Anyhow, I reasoned that there must be benefits to going to the gym when I'm not feeling 100% fit, and treadmill running is definitely preferable to no running!  The main benefits I see in running on a treadmill is they have sprung platforms therefore the impact stress on the body is reduced (I hope!), secondly you can set the pace you would like to run on the treadmill and you don't have a lot of choice but to keep up or look an idiot and fall off, so I'm hoping it can help me to increase my speed. Thirdly there is no wind, rain, dog mess or puddles - you leave the outside world - outside!!!

As I said I was being kind to my old, worn out body so I set the treadmill to a slowish speed with a slight incline, and plodded along in my own little world for 30 minutes!  The most annoying thing being that one of my earphones wasn't working so I only had music blasting down one ear, a very strange sensation!

After managing a fairly pathetic 2.48 miles running I did some stretching before I took to the bike!  I reasoned working different muscles could only be good!  I managed 30 minutes on the bike and covered 4.18 miles!


My main concern is not overdoing it and putting myself out of action  for the Liverpool Half Marathon on the 18th March 2012!  I will run gently and fingers crossed things will improve.
